This is the region the site exists for: Colorado's narrow-gauge country. The Durango & Silverton is the icon, but the bench runs deep — the Georgetown Loop's high bridge, Leadville's high-country trains, the Royal Gorge Route through the gorge itself, Cripple Creek's two-foot-gauge steam, and the Pikes Peak Cog Railway climbing to 14,000 feet.
East of the divide the region changes character: Heber Valley runs Utah's heritage line, and Nevada contributes a museum railroad at Ely that runs full-size trains and Virginia City's Comstock Route. One honest note: Wyoming has no operating scenic railway — every candidate there is a static display, so the state simply does not appear, rather than being padded.
